The Master Cleanse: Day 1

Today was the first day of my Master Cleanse experiment. I decided to skip the ease-in period because of time restraints, but I’ll definitely be doing the ease-out period afterwards to make sure I don’t rebound.

Now, the reason I’m doing this is not to lose weight (although that is a nice bonus); I’m primarily doing this to clear out my body and prepare for a more healthy lifestyle. I’d really like to attempt to take on the flexitarian diet, which is really just a fancy word for a vegetarian who occasionally eats meat. I’m not in it for any animal rights or anything. Studies have shown that a diet consisting of mostly non-meat food is optimal for the human body, and that is what will ultimately jump-start my losing weight.

Anyways, enough background. I’m sure if you want to learn more, you can check out a lovely site that’s just full of such useful information.

The first thing I did this morning was drink the saltwater flush. HO. LY. CRAP. It uses sea salt, so it tastes exactly like getting hit by a wave in the ocean and swallowing the water. It was a liter of the stuff, too! Anyways, it took me a good 10 mins. to down it all, and sure enough, within an hour I could feel my bowels rumbling. I’ll save you the details, but it wasn’t anything too extraordinary anyways.

Throughout the day I’ve been drinking a mixture of lemon juice, grade A organic maple syrup, and cayenne pepper in 2 liters of water. I haven’t quite finished it yet, seeing as how I’ll still be awake for another 5 hours or so. It actually doesn’t taste too bad, aside from the fact that I put too much cayenne pepper in it. I’ve been drinking a cup or so every time I feel hungry, with as much water in between as I want. I haven’t really been hungry, except for weird cravings for rice, chicken and chocolate.

I’ll be finishing the day with an herbal tea, which I also had last night. It’s got a citrus flavor to it, and tastes pretty much like what you’d expect in a tea.

So far so good! Apparently days 2-3 are the worst, so we’ll see what happens. :)
