Identity theft
Jan. 25, 2010
People never think it’s gonna happen to them. Heck, I’m guilty of it too. But today I got a letter in the mail from Credit Management, LP, a debt collection agency, saying that I owe $122.23 to Charter Communications, a cable company. I called them, and found out that the purchase was made back in August 2008. The lady then proceeded to ask for my Social Security Number, which I didn’t want to give her in case it was a scam, so I hung up on her. I don’t really know what to do, so I’ll do some more research on this shady debt collection agency.
Other than that, my day was extremely tiring. I woke up at 6:30 so I could be at Del Mar by 7:30 for my internship. I spent all morning updating about thirty laptops and making sure they’re clean of viruses. Jimmy came in early and helped me for the last thirty minutes or so, which wasn’t too bad at all. Once 1:00 rolled around, I contemplated hanging out with someone until 5:30 because I didn’t want to go home, but…it was a long time, and I was driving the Fit anyway…so I went ahead and drove home.
I went back to class at 5:30 and listened to both the professor and students talk about “new technologies” and stuff like that, even though they were wrong—or at least mostly wrong—about a lot of things. I felt like Lindsay Lohan in “Mean Girls” when she’s being tutored by that cute guy she likes. Every time they said something that wasn’t true, I’d hear Cady say, “Wrong!” At least it helped me entertain myself through the three hours I was there.
Like I said, I’m gonna research this debt thing a bit more before I head off to sleep. I kinda hope it is just a scam instead of full-blown identity theft. Wish me luck. :(
