The Lemming Effect

I really wish people were more open-minded about trying new things. Just because everyone’s using a certain product doesn’t mean that it’s the best.

Take Facebook, for example. More people are using Facebook than MySpace. Does that make it the better social network? Hell no. Well, I would prefer Facebook to MySpace if they allowed a bit more customization to your profile. Then again, I’m all for uniformity since some MySpace profiles just look absolutely horrid with bad spelling and grammar, ads from the sites they got their layouts from, etc.

Mac vs. PC is another prime example. Windows is the primary operating system for about 88% of computers, but Mac (at least until Windows 7 is released) is the superior of the two. On the flipside, however, most people choose Macs just because of the “cool factor” of owning a Mac, when they could be paying half the price for a better computer.

But still, there are tons of new startups that have lots of potential for being great, if only people would give them a chance.
